Dateline: Unknown Location The Japanese people that we have encountered so far are always reserved, quiet and polite until the lights go down and the karaoke machine is turned on. Then, we see a side of them that is totally contrary to the culture that we had envisioned. In a dark, smoky room, their voices boom, off key at best and yet we cannot help but join in. Something we would never do at home. And, here we are on our one night off singing old standbys like "Take Me Home Country Roads", "Knock Three Times", "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Tree" and our finale, the highlight of the evening, "My Way". And yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew, I did it my way. With new friends and new memories, we will always remember our one moment of fame, in front of the karaoke machine. |
